The Spark
Two longtime friends, Lyndon and Tim, were early adopters of electric vehicles in the UK. They loved the way their EVs drove—silent, powerful, and future-facing. But the experience surrounding EV ownership was clunky, disconnected, and painfully behind the times.
Charging on the go was a gamble: apps failed, pricing was unclear, charge points were offline, and receipts—critical for business users—were often impossible to retrieve. Despite embracing the future of mobility, they found themselves stuck in a broken system that forgot the most important person in the ecosystem—the driver.
They kept asking:
“Why does such cutting-edge tech come with such a terrible user experience?”
The Breaking Point
Their frustration turned into determination during one conversation in early 2024. Sat across from each other after another failed charging session, they compared notes—not just about the poor state of away-from-home charging, but how little information existed about everything EV-related: home chargers, insurance, servicing, tyres, even whether roadside recovery companies truly supported EVs.
The problem was clear: the EV industry was building infrastructure and tech—but had completely forgotten to build trust, ease, and confidence for the everyday driver. EV drivers weren’t losing faith in the cars—they were losing faith in how to live with them.
That day, Lyndon and Tim made a decision. They could either keep moaning about it like everyone else—or become the solution themselves.
Project X was born. The mission? Build the EV experience they wished existed.
Building the Foundation
Lyndon brought his entrepreneurial leadership and track record of running successful businesses.
Tim brought years of global brand experience, having worked across multiple sectors focused on customer-centric innovation.
Together, they assembled a team of exceptional developers and researchers—not to chase the next piece of shiny tech, but to build something useful, beautiful, and genuinely driver-first.
They started with the basics—clean, accurate data. During testing, they discovered the industry’s average data accuracy hovered around 65%. That meant one in three sessions could fail, mislead, or leave customers stranded. That was unacceptable.
They pushed harder, often frustrating partners who told them “that’s just how it is.” But they didn’t believe it. They delayed launch, invested heavily, and insisted on better standards. It wasn’t easy. It cost them time, money, and many late nights. But eventually, they pushed data accuracy to 99.8%.
